BBNaija star Bella Okagbue has broken her silence on the ongoing controversy surrounding her relationship with her former boyfriend, Sheggz, saying she initially chose not to speak because she believed some aspects of their relationship should remain private.
In a statement shared on social media, Bella said she had watched as people told her story for her in recent days, but stressed that her decision to remain silent should not be interpreted as an admission of guilt.
According to the reality TV star, she genuinely loved Sheggz and defended their relationship because she believed in it at the time. She also said she gave him another chance because she believed people were capable of changing.
However, Bella explained that believing in someone's ability to change did not mean she was obligated to wait indefinitely for that change to happen.
“The person everyone experiences publicly isn't always the person you experience privately,” she wrote.
The BBNaija star also addressed conversations surrounding marriage and a ring Sheggz had previously said he bought for her.
Bella said wanting to marry someone she loved should not be interpreted as desperation, adding that recognising when a relationship should not lead to marriage is a sign of discernment.
“A ring doesn't fix what made a relationship impossible,” she stated.
She also appeared to challenge some of the narratives surrounding their relationship, saying that certain versions of events being circulated online did not reflect her personal experience.
Bella added that there were aspects of her experience that she had deliberately chosen not to make public, noting that those were details she would share when she felt ready.
“A hundred promises. Not one fulfilled,” she wrote, explaining that she eventually stopped listening to promises and began paying closer attention to patterns of behaviour.
The reality TV star said she had given the relationship her love, another chance and loyalty, but eventually reached a point where trust, respect and peace could no longer coexist with that loyalty.
Despite the outcome of the relationship, Bella said she did not regret giving it another chance.
She concluded by saying she had decided to prioritise herself and walk away from the relationship.
“So today, I choose myself. I choose differently, regardless of what comes with it,” she wrote. See the screenshots below.
