From Banana Island to Handcuffs: How a ₦39 Billion Cocaine Bust Led to the Arrest of “KC Luxury”

From luxury cars and expensive jewellery to a dramatic arrest at the airport, the arrest of popular social media personality Afolabi Kazeem Michael, better known online as “KC Luxury,” has brought renewed attention to the alleged criminal networks operating behind Nigeria’s luxury lifestyle scene.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) reportedly arrested Michael on August 13, 2026, as he attempted to board a flight to Paris from the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.

His arrest reportedly followed the seizure of 184.5 kilograms of cocaine, valued by authorities at about ₦39 billion, in what the NDLEA described as its largest single cocaine seizure involving a courier or logistics company.

The drugs were reportedly intercepted at a courier company in Lagos.

A logistics company employee, identified as Lawal Mujab Kehinde, was also arrested. Authorities allege that he was involved in packaging the cocaine for export.

According to the NDLEA, intelligence indicated that Michael was preparing to leave Nigeria.

Operatives reportedly moved quickly and intercepted him at the airport boarding gate before he could get on the flight to Paris.

At the time of his arrest, authorities reportedly found him carrying more than $12,840 worth of cash in three currencies — €7,750, £2,800 and ₦100,000 — as well as expensive jewellery.

But the arrest was only the beginning.

The “KC Luxury” Persona

Online, Michael had reportedly built a glamorous image around luxury.

With hundreds of thousands of followers on Instagram, he presented himself as a businessman dealing in gold, high-end jewellery and luxury goods.

His social media presence was built around expensive cars, designer items and a lifestyle many people could only dream of.

But according to investigators, there was allegedly another side to the story.

The NDLEA reportedly suspects that the luxury lifestyle was being used as a cover for a much darker operation.

Authorities allege that Michael was an alleged key figure in an international drug trafficking network responsible for moving cocaine from South America through Nigeria to destinations across Europe, the United Kingdom and Asia.

Following his arrest, NDLEA operatives reportedly searched his luxury apartment in Banana Island, Lagos, where they recovered exotic vehicles and other high-value assets.

The agency's chairman, Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd.), reportedly said investigations had revealed links to suspected members of the same network outside Nigeria.

According to the NDLEA, law enforcement authorities in the United Kingdom had already arrested several other suspected members of the alleged syndicate.

The case is still unfolding.

And while the allegations against Michael are extremely serious, they remain allegations until established in court.

For now, the man who built a public image around luxury and wealth is facing a very different reality — detention, criminal allegations and a major investigation into an alleged international cocaine network.

The biggest question now is not how much luxury he displayed online.

It is how much of that lifestyle was allegedly funded by the criminal operation investigators say they have uncovered.

From Banana Island to an airport boarding gate, the fall was reportedly as dramatic as the lifestyle he spent years showcasing online.
