Former Super Eagles defender Ifeanyi Udeze has rejected former Nigeria international Obafemi Martins’ suggestion that Seyi Tinubu could become the next president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
Martins recently backed the idea of having a young leader take charge of Nigerian football, saying such an individual should understand the game, the system and the expectations of Nigerian football fans.
Speaking on the *Obi One Podcast* hosted by former Super Eagles captain John Obi Mikel, Martins suggested **Seyi Tinubu**, son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as someone who could bring the desired change.
However, Udeze strongly disagreed with the proposal while speaking on Brila FM on Tuesday.
“For me, it’s a bad idea. I don’t know what made Martins make such a statement—maybe because he’s a friend to Seyi Tinubu—but like I said, I don’t buy the idea,” Udeze said.
He argued that there are several other young Nigerians with football backgrounds who could be considered for the position.
“If Martins claims we need young people to come and run our football, there are other young people,” Udeze added.
“I was thinking he would mention a young person like Seyi Olofinjana. I was surprised with his choice, so for me, Obafemi Martins is on his own.”
The disagreement comes amid renewed uncertainty over the leadership of Nigerian football following the recent resignation of NFF President Ibrahim Musa Gusau and other board members.
The shake-up followed mounting criticism over the management and performance of Nigeria’s national teams, with calls growing for major reforms within the country’s football administration.
