Police Arrest Woman Over Fake OPay Shutdown Document

The Nigeria Police Force has arrested a woman identified as Hafsat Abubakar over the alleged creation and circulation of a forged document claiming that fintech company OPay was shutting down its operations in Nigeria.

According to the police, the suspect allegedly created the fake document and circulated it on social media, causing confusion and potentially misleading members of the public about the status of the financial technology company.

The development comes amid growing concerns over the spread of false information and fabricated documents online, particularly those capable of causing panic among customers of financial institutions.

The police said the suspect was arrested following an investigation into the origin and circulation of the document.

Authorities are expected to continue investigating the matter to establish the suspect’s motive and determine whether other individuals were involved in producing or distributing the alleged fake document.

The police also urged members of the public to verify information before sharing content online, particularly claims concerning financial institutions and other sensitive matters.
