Tinubu Mourns Olu Jacobs, Describes Him as Giant of Nigerian Creative Industry

President Bola Tinubu has expressed sadness over the death of veteran Nollywood actor and film executive Oludotun Baiyewu Jacobs, popularly known as Olu Jacobs, who died at the age of 84.

In a condolence message issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Wednesday, Tinubu described Jacobs as one of Nigeria’s most distinguished actors and a towering figure whose career spanned theatre, television and film. 

The President said Jacobs made significant contributions to the development and professionalization of Nigeria’s entertainment industry, inspiring generations of actors and filmmakers through his talent, discipline and dedication to his craft.

“He was a giant of the Nigerian creative industry. His passing is a great loss to Nigeria, the African film industry and the global community of lovers of the performing arts,” Tinubu said. 

Tinubu also praised Jacobs for bringing depth, dignity, and authenticity to the characters he portrayed, saying his body of work would continue to inspire generations.

The President extended his condolences to Jacobs’ wife, veteran actress Joke Silva, their children, relatives, colleagues and the wider Nigerian creative community.

Jacobs’ death was announced by his family on Wednesday, September 16. The family described him as “The Lion of Lufodo” and appealed to the public, particularly bloggers and social media influencers, to respect their privacy as they mourn.
