The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Kano State Command, has arrested a 40-year-old man for allegedly attempting to smuggle suspected cannabis into a custodial facility in the state.

The suspect was reportedly apprehended around noon on Sunday while attempting to throw the prohibited substance into the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Kurmawa, Kano.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSC Musbahu Kofarnassarawa, disclosed the incident in a statement issued on Monday. He said officers of the Armed Squad Unit foiled the attempt through their vigilance and prompt response.

The Controller of Corrections in Kano State, Ahmed Yusuf-Lakpene, commended the officers for their alertness and professionalism, reiterating the command’s zero-tolerance stance towards the introduction of prohibited substances and other materials into custodial centres.

He also urged members of the public to desist from activities capable of compromising security within correctional facilities.
