In a truer-than-fiction incident that happened
yesterday in the once insurgents-besieged
town of Maiduguri, a man handed over his
son to operatives of the Joint Task Force (JTF)
in Borno State asking them to kill the boy
over his alleged involvement in Boko Haram
activities.
Sources close to the family said the son had
once threatened to kill his father before he
fled home, but only returned recently to seek
refuge in the family's compound.
Angered by the return of his son, the man,
who is said to be in his 60s, approached the
Sector commander of the JTF in the area
where his house is located and told him to
apprehend the son.
The father explained that his son had killed
many people and so deserved to be killed too.
It was gathered that the young man had
confessed to committing various offences but
attempted to flee when soldiers demanded to
take him for further interrogation.
"He was shot dead when he attempted to run
away. The father was not perturbed by what
befell his son. The mother, however, is still
crying and forced her elder children to
organize burial for the deceased," a family
source disclosed.
There was no immediate confirmation of the
incident by the JTF.
