  • Police Arrest 6 For Production Of Fake Wine,Beer In Imo
  • The Imo state police command has arrested 6 suspects who specialise in the production and distribution of fake and adulterated wine, hot
    drinks and beer at two different locations in the state.
    While briefing newsmen at the production factory located at Eziudo community in Ezinihitte Mbaise local government Area of Imo state, the Commissioner for Police Mr
    Mohammed Katsina disclosed that the suspects who were arrested by the command's Ambush Squad after a tip-off, used to produce the fake and substandard products in an unhygienic
    and unregulated environment with fake NAFDAC number.
    The premises of the production factory located at Umuoho Eziudi in Ezinihitte Mbaise local government area of imo state was filled with
    drums of ethanol, bags of cork cover,fake cartons of Hennessy wine, Eva wine, hunter hot drink and many more.
    The suspects, after the production,distribute the products to sell to unsuspecting members of the public at the same rate as the original product
    which cause a lot of health hazards to consumers.
    36 -year old Chibueze Ubah, suspected leader of the gang demonstrates and describes how the cocktail is mixed and how the drinks are sealed before distribution.
    The suspects disclosed that they have been in existence for over 5 years with partners and dealers in Aba, Abia state and other south east states.
    While lamenting over this sad incident which has taken lives of many unsuspected consumers, the Imo state commissioner of police, Mohammed Katsina, describes the incident as an unfortunate one, and promised to go after every person behind this act and prosecute them accordingly.
    Thereafter, the team proceeded to the second factory located at number 85 Royce road, in Owerri, the Imo state capital, where fake beer like star,Maltina, Heineken and drinks of all
    sorts were being produced in an unhygienic environment.
    Some of the items recovered from the suspects are 20 cartons of adulterated
    Eva wine, drums of assorted chemicals, 50 drums of ethanol, empty cartons of seaman schnapps, labels of assorted drinks, four cartons of St Remy wine, four bags of empty bleach,
    assorted liquid soap and body lotion containers and many more.
    He however advised the general public to be wary of where they buy drinks, beverages and food items in order to prevent any negative impact on their health.
