The All Progressives Congress has said it
has uncovered another plot being hatched against the leadership of the
party by sympathisers of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party.
According to the APC, the fresh plot was
to import a huge amount of money in US dollars through some people who
would then claim that they were hired as cash couriers by the APC
leaders.
This allegation was contained in a
statement issued in Abuja on Thursday by the APC National Publicity
Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed.
The party said the implicating dollars
would be ferried into the country through the Seme or Idi-Iroko, or any
other border posts, “anytime from now.”
However, the PDP dismissed the allegations as baseless.
The Deputy National Publicity Secretary
of the PDP, Alhaji Abdullahi Jalo, said, “The APC has taken propaganda
to a ridiculous level. We will not dignify them with a response because
this allegation lacks substance.”
Lai Mohammed’s statement read in part:
“Their plan is that once the couriers – who have been coached on their
assignment – are arrested by the Nigerian security agents, they will
point accusing fingers at some top APC leaders who supposedly
commissioned them to bring in the money to be used for the forthcoming
elections.
“The plotters of the evil plan will then
order the arrest of the leaders, with a view to damaging their
credibility and destabilising them ahead of the elections.”
According to the APC, as many evil plots
as were being hatched by desperadoes that were bent on setting the
country ablaze just to realise their ambition would be exposed because
Nigerians themselves, within and outside the government, had decided to
be extra- vigilant.
It added, “Let’s be clear: Our leaders,
who have been the targets of unprecedented mudslinging as well as
physical and psychological threats will not be intimidated into
abandoning their epic struggle to save our country from a rapacious
administration.
“Therefore, let those who have been
unrelenting in threatening them and also painting them black, using
every means imaginable, desist, because their game is up. The people of
Nigeria have repudiated their primitive tactics.”
