A South American festival with religious roots has been deemed a cruel blood bath for bulls tortured during the event. The week-long Fiesta de la Virgen de la Candelaria, a festival in honor of the Virgin of Candelaria, is celebrated in many Central and South American countries. The bulls are loaded with alcohol before they are unleashed unto the crowd.
