An FCT High Court on Wednesday in Abuja ordered that Murtala Magaji, a 32-year-old fruit seller, be remanded in Suleja Prison for allegedly killing his partner.
In his ruling after the defendant’s arraignment, Justice Bello Kawu said the court would write a letter to the Ministry of Justice to request it to avail the defendant a defence counsel.
Kawu adjourned the case till September 26 for hearing.
Earlier, Magaji, who resides at Zuba fruit market, had pleaded not guilty to the charge of culpable homicide.

The Police Prosecuting Counsel, A.O. Urom, told the court that the defendant committed the offence at about 1pm on January 22 at Zuba fruit market.
Urom said the defendant beat his partner, Adama Idris, to stupor and hit her head against a wall, which resulted to her death.
He said the offence contravened Section 221 of the Penal Code.
