Obinna Iwuoha was brutally murdered by the police officer in Imo state
The Nigeria Police Force has dismissed a police Sergeant, Wilson
Ufere, who killed 16-year-old Obinna Iwuoha, on Thursday on the
Anara-Umuahia expressway in the Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of
Imo State.
The incident happened at about 5:30 pm at ‘Ugwu Omiri Lawyer’,
while Ufere was on a road duty with two other colleagues. He opened fire
directly at a close range on a group of youths, mostly teenagers who
were on a church procession.
16-year-old Obinna, who was a secondary school one student, died
instantly, while three others, Tochukwu Uzoukwu, 25, Chukwuebuka
Donatus, 24, and Chigozie Iwuala, 28, were battered by bullets leading
to their coma for days.
While speaking to newsmen, spokesperson for the police in the
state, Andrew Enwerem, said that the trigger-happy policeman had been
found culpable and immediately dismissed from the force.
Enwerem, said that after orderly room trial of Ufere and his
colleagues who took part in the dastardly act, it was discovered that he
was guilty and subsequently expelled as a police officer.
Ufere will be charged to court for murder, according to the
Enwerem. However, the two other police officers who were with Ufere
during the shooting spree were not found guilty of murder but would be
punished internally according to the police force regulations.
He said, “The police officer has been dismissed from the force. He was found guilty of murder. He is no longer a police officer.
“We are going to arraign him in court for murder immediately.
The other officers were not dismissed but will be punished internally
according to the police regulations.”
