  • N54m Theft: Man Who Allowed His Son Jump Bail Detained By Police
  • A 60-year-old man, Amos Oyemade, who stood surety for his son has been arrested today, following the jumping of bail by his son, Sesan Oyemade.

He is being charged for “obstruction of justice” by the Igbosere Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.

According to NAN, the prosecutor, Insp. Steven Molo, told the court that the accused committed the offence on May 11, 2016 at Lion Building, Area `A’ Police Command on Lagos Island.

He said Oyemade stood surety for his son, Sesan Oyemade, who was charged with stealing N54m.

Molo, however, said the older Oyemade had promised the police that he would produce his son whenever he was needed until the final determination of the case.

“The accused (Oyemade senior) failed to produce his son on May 12, 2016, and other subsequent days, as requested by the police.

“The accused, however, allowed his son to travel outside the country,” Molo said.

He said the accused should show cause why the bond of N54m he entered into should not be forfeited to the Lagos State Government.

The offence contravened Section 140 of the Criminal Procedure Law, Laws of the Federation, 2003.

    The accused pleaded not guilty.

The Magistrate, Mr. B. A. Sonuga remanded him in custody and adjourned the case to April 14 for bail consideration.
