As Nigerians await the roll out of TStv (Telecom Satellite Television) decoders on November 1, 2017,
findings have shown that powers that be, especially pay TV giant, DSTV,
were carrying out acts to frustrate the new entrant into the industry.
DSTV,
according to an investigation, seems to be apprehensive by the exciting
offers that has endeared millions of Nigeria to TStv.
TStv
introduces the Pay-as-You-View (PAYV) model, an option other providers
had insisted was not possible, arguing that they bought the contents
they relay as a whole and not in bits.
The DTH
pay TV, offers 200 rich blend of local and international channels and
packages for entertainment, including news, sports, kids, health, etc.
These will be distributed on the ABS 3A Africa beam, located at 3 degrees west, beginning with 100 channels.
TStv
will also show live sports like Premier League, UEFA Champions League,
Europa League and much more. Some sport channels on TStv Africa are
Sport 1-10, Fox Sport HD, and Ts Sports.
Running
on 4.5G network, every subscriber will get 20G of data for N3,000
monthly. The data can also be used for video calls conferences with
camera and WiFi.
The TStv decoder has 50GB hard
disk to record TV programmes, a pause/play function and many more
irresistible packages to be unveiled soon.
Perhaps
unsettled by these and other products and services in store, DSTV, it
was gathered, has earmarked billions of Naira to whittle down the
influence of its new competitor.
From the
pressure on the nation’s regulatory agencies; threat on third party
channels; to secret infiltration of the national assembly, DSTV has been
trying hard to deny Nigerians the new lease of life they yearned for
many years.
DSTV, sources say, has officially
written to over twenty third party channels to withdraw the rights they
have but now granted to TStv.
At the federal
legislature, DSTV through its agents, are lobbying to get the lawmakers
to tag TStv a terrorist organisation because the corporate body has
refused to disclose how it got the rights.
Furthermore,
DSTV, sources added is planning to jam the frequency of TStv to stop it
from reaching our various homes when it starts to beam.
But
top industry practitioners, who spoke separately on condition of
anonymity, condemned move by "monopolists" and "enemies of progress" to
de-market TStv.
They all agree that 20 or more
pay TV operators in Nigeria, with a population of over N180 million, can
function properly, do good business and still make maximum profits,
without bickering.
The analysts added that it
is "criminal" and "sheer wickedness" for any company or group of persons
to attempt gag citizens to remain on a particular platform when there
are others offering similar services.
Meanwhile, as the November 1
date approaches, Nigerians who eagerly anticipate to get their decoders
to enjoy lots of sports, news, movies, kiddies, religious, health,
music, fashion and lifestyle channels in a single affordable bouquet,
remain unperturbed about ongoing gimmicks and intrigues by forces
against TStv.
