Afrobeat pioneer Fela Anikulapo Kuti has been inducted into the 2025 Grammy Hall of Fame for his iconic 1976 album, Zombie
The Grammy Hall of Fame, founded in 1973 by the Recording Academy, recognizes recordings of lasting qualitative or historical significance that are at least 25 years old. Inductees are chosen annually by a committee of seasoned professionals across various fields of the recording arts.
Fela’s eldest son, Femi Kuti, accepted the award on behalf of the family, describing the recognition as a proud moment.
“Our father’s legacy lives on. We are honoured to accept this Grammy Hall of Fame award on behalf of Fela Anikulapo Kuti,” Femi wrote on X. “His music continues to inspire and unite people across the world.”
Fela Kuti, who died on August 2, 1997, remains a towering figure in global music and activism. Nearly three decades after his passing, his influence endures through his fearless messages and revolutionary sound.
