  • VeryDarkMan reacts to his ‘Verydarkblackman’ biopic movie
  •

VeryDarkMan has spoken out strongly against a Nollywood biopic created about his life, describing it as inaccurate and unauthorized

In a lengthy Instagram video, VeryDarkMan expressed his displeasure with the film, which features veteran actor Gentle Jack playing his character. “To be very honest, I’m not even happy with it,” he said. “While watching it, I even cringe.”

Although he appreciated the recognition that a biopic brings—especially so early in his public career—he felt deeply disrespected by how it was handled. “It hasn’t even been up to three years since I started gaining fame as VeryDarkMan, and already a biopic is out. That’s big. But the issue is, nobody reached out to me. Gentle Jack is a legend. There’s no way he’d message me and I wouldn’t respond within 30 minutes.”

VeryDarkMan noted that if he had been contacted, he would have willingly shared the full story of his life—both the good and controversial parts. “I would’ve told you everything: what pushed me to speak for people, why I don’t collect money for advocacy, my background—even the parts of my life I’m not proud of. I don’t hide anything. I’m not trying to be a ‘good person.’ I’m just real.”
He also criticized the film’s portrayal of his relationship with his associate, Kokopi, calling it a “caricature.” According to him, the biopic got key details wrong, including how they met. “They made it look like Kokopi was begging on the street. That’s false. We met through a mutual friend the day someone gifted me a luxury car worth over ₦40 million. I drove Kokopi home that night, and that’s how our bond started.”

VeryDarkMan also used the opportunity to address past accusations regarding mismanagement of NGO funds. He praised the EFCC for thoroughly investigating him and clearing his name. “Over ₦300 million passed through my NGO account, and I didn’t touch one kobo for myself. EFCC did me a favor. They’ve proven my integrity, and now nobody can say I chopped money.”

He then encouraged continued public support for his NGO, stressing the urgent need for donations to fund borehole projects across the country. “₦300 million is small compared to the number of communities that need water. Keep donating, even if it’s ₦100.”

Despite his frustration, he ended with a message of clarity: “This biopic doesn’t sit well with me. If they had come to me, they would have told the real story. What they released? It’s not my story.”

VeryDarkMan confirmed he’s not taking legal action but made it clear he doesn’t approve of the project. “I don’t sue. But if you like, swear for my papa and mama, this one no gel.”
