Marlian Music boss, Naira Marley has finally shared his side of the story surrounding the de..ath of his former signee, Mohbad with real names as Ilerioluwa Aloba
On his YouTube channel, Marley sought to clarify misunderstandings and highlight the nature of his relationship with the late artist.
Marley recounted:
“On December 30, 2019, I announced Mohbad, Zino, and Cblack as my artistes at The Marlian Fest. In January 2020, we had conversations on how he would drop his songs. He even said he wanted to drop a song so that he could get an award with Headies. Even though he dropped hot songs, Headies never gave him an award when he was alive until after he d!ed. That is so sad. I believed in him because he had the zeal and energy to work. We were extremely close and we loved each other.”
He revealed that in June 2020, he learned Mohbad was using a substance called “ice” and advised him against it.
“Back in the UK, I knew what crack did to people’s lives, so I advised him. He was taking it with his friend. He thanked me for the advice and our relationship was as smooth as ever.”
On financial matters, Marley explained:
“On December 21, 2020, Mohbad sent me an account with the name Adesanya Justina Olajumoke. He said that was his new account where money should be paid into. I was like this is not your account, but anyway I paid his money there. Later, I told him I wasn’t comfortable sending money to that account and that he should open his own. Mohbad and I had a very plain and open relationship. I never cheated him. We had a smooth contract and everything was 50-50.”
He also addressed Mohbad’s health and mental struggles:
“On February 24, 2022, the NDLEA incident happened. He joined after a physical altercation and I had to quickly fly back home. After he was released, Mohbad went live under duress, having a panic attack, and accused me and others of endangering his life. I went straight to the hospital, paid for his bills, meds, and CT scan. He was having memory lapses and body pains, and I ensured he got proper treatment and monitoring.”
Marley recounted Mohbad’s su!c!de attempt in March 2022:
“On March 27, 2022, Mohbad attempted su!c!de. I called him immediately, encouraged him, and coordinated with team members to ensure his safety. I told him, ‘if anything happens to you now, it is me they will hold because you already made a live video.’ He started apologizing again, and we handled the situation carefully with his friends and family.”
Despite challenges, Marley emphasized that their professional and personal relationship remained intact:
“Even after all these incidents, our relationship was smooth. Mohbad continued to release songs like ‘Ronaldo’ and ‘Peace.’ He was still involved in decision-making about his music, finances, and manager. I guided him where necessary but always let him have control over his choices.”
In conclusion, Naira Marley said:
“I never cheated Mohbad, and I had no involvement in any harm that befell him. I acted in his best interest, paid for his medical care, supported him through challenges, and remained a mentor. I am deeply saddened by his passing and continue to honor his memory and support his family.”
