Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja has directed the President of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) to set up a team of medical experts to assess the health condition of Biafra agitator, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
The court gave the committee eight days to submit its report, which will guide the decision on whether Kanu should be transferred to the National Hospital for treatment.
Justice Omotosho ruled that the team must visit the Department of State Services (DSS) hospital to determine whether it has the capacity to meet Kanu’s medical needs. He added that the committee may use any hospital in the country for its investigation.
The committee is to consist of eight to ten NMA members, including a cardiologist, a neurologist, and the Chief Medical Director of the National Hospital.
The order followed conflicting medical reports presented by the DSS and Kanu’s private consultants regarding his health status.
