Residents of Umuahia and Aba have raised fresh, disturbing allegations that a woman reported missing — and her newborn twins — were sold to a woman allegedly running a child-trafficking operation in Umuahia.
According to community accounts passed to our newsroom, the missing woman was lured by a friend who — the community says — was unaware the woman she led her to was involved in child trafficking. The same accounts allege the woman was later killed at the house of the suspected trafficker, who is described as a woman in her late 50s.
Local sources further claim the friend who initially helped bring the missing woman to the trafficker was later detained by police and died while in custody. Before her death, those sources say she repeatedly told officers she would confess and was heard calling for the missing woman, identified in the neighborhood as “Sarah.” Members of the community say the friend’s final statements implicated the traffickers.
A husband and wife have been identified by residents as part of the network that sold the missing mother and her twins to the suspected trafficker. Community members say the couple lives between Umuahia and Aba, and that one of them owns two houses in Umuahia.
Legal proceedings are ongoing. The matter is currently before the courts, and reports indicate several claims by the suspects have been rejected.
