  • MEET HON. JUSTICE C.A. NSIRIM-NWOSU — THE RIVERS STATE JUDGE WHO SENTENCED DAMIAN OKOLIGWE TO DEATH FOR THE MURDER OF JUSTINA OTUENE

  • Many people have heard the name, but only a few truly know the woman behind one of the most talked-about judgments in Rivers State this year. Hon. Justice C.A. Nsirim-Nwosu, a respected judge of the Rivers State High Court and a distinguished alumna of Madonna University, presided over the case involving UNIPORT student, Damian Chinaemerem Okoligwe, who murdered his girlfriend, Justina Otuene.

On Thursday, November 28, 2025, after two years of legal proceedings, she delivered the long-awaited judgment—convicting Okoligwe and sentencing him to death by hanging.

But who exactly is My Lord, Hon. Justice Nsirim-Nwosu?

Below are key facts many people do not know about her:

    • ✅ She is a proud graduate of Madonna University.
    • ✅ She holds a Master’s degree in Law from the United Kingdom.
    • ✅ She served under Hon. Justice Omereji for nine years as a legal assistant.
    • ✅ Her hard work and brilliance earned her an appointment as a Magistrate in 2021.
    • ✅ In 2022, barely a year later, she was elevated to the High Court Bench as a judge—an achievement that speaks to her exceptional competence, integrity and work ethic.

During yesterday’s court session, after the defendant was allowed to plead for mercy (allocutus), Justice Nsirim-Nwosu briefly retired to her chambers and re-emerged wearing the red gown and black cap reserved for pronouncing capital punishment. She then delivered the solemn ruling:

“The sentence of this court is that you be taken to a lawful place of execution and there hanged by the neck until you are dead. May God have mercy on your soul.”

Her courage, firmness and deep sense of duty have drawn widespread commendation. With the court having completed its role, the next step lies with the state governor, who must sign the execution order.

May God have mercy on the soul of Damian Okoligwe, and may justice bring closure to the family of Justina Otuene.
