ABUJA — A distraught mother has accused a male teacher at a private mission school/crèche in Abuja of sexually molesting her 3-year-old daughter, alleging that the assault occurred just three days after the toddler was enrolled.
The mother, who shared her harrowing account on social media on November 18, 2025, under the handle @mamaeliana23, detailed how she discovered the abuse and the subsequent obstacles she faced while seeking justice.
How the Alleged Abuse Was Discovered
According to the mother's detailed post titled "How I discovered my child was molested", she enrolled her daughter in the school on October 14, 2025, primarily to help with speech delay and potty training. The crèche was recommended for its supportive environment.
On October 17 — the third day of attendance and a Friday — the mother decided to forgo diapers and send her daughter in just pants with an extra pair, as advised by the class nanny.
She dropped the child off between 7:50 AM and 7:55 AM. A male teacher received the toddler that morning, which the mother initially thought nothing of.
The school closed early at 12 PM that day. The mother arrived on time to pick up her daughter and noticed the child walking strangely but dismissed it initially.
At home, the toddler undressed and anxiously demanded food (spaghetti) without eating at school. While naked, she suddenly stood up crying, clutching her private area, and told her mother it "might be pepper" and that she needed to be washed.
When the mother attempted to clean her vaginal and anal areas, the child cried intensely and resisted, especially around the vaginal area. Suspecting possible inappropriate touching, the mother checked further and discovered blood mixed with water dripping from the center of her daughter's anus.
The father confirmed the same observation. The parents immediately contacted a driver to return to the school.
Confrontation at the School and Police Report
Back at the school within 20-25 minutes, the mother confronted the head teacher and demanded the presence of the male teachers. When the accused male teacher arrived, he allegedly flared up, insisting the incident "must have happened on your way back home" or accused the parents of doing something to the child, and even suggested the class teachers might have caused it while cleaning her.
The mother then went straight to a nearby police station to report the matter. However, she claims the female officer at the counter discouraged her, saying she was "accusing these people wrongly" and noting that she knew the school owners because her own daughter attended there. The school owners were allegedly called and arrived at the station to give their side.
The police eventually accompanied the family for medical examination.
Medical Examination and Findings
The family was first directed to General Hospital, Gwarinpa, but was referred to Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Jabi due to the absence of a gynecologist on duty. At FMC Jabi, after a long wait (phones died from low battery), a gynecologist examined the child around 7 PM and reportedly found:
Double tears on her labia
A torn hymen
The doctor allegedly confirmed sexual assault. The mother demanded a medical report but was told to follow protocol. They were later directed to Wuse District Hospital, where the child was attended to by 10 PM.
Call for Justice and Public Reaction
The mother expressed frustration at what she described as attempts to cover up the incident, including the male teacher's defensive reaction and reluctance from some police personnel.
As of November 21, 2025, there has been no official statement from the school, the Nigeria Police Force, or the mentioned hospitals regarding the allegations.
Child rights advocates have called for swift investigation, emphasizing that sexual violence against minors remains a grave concern in Nigeria, with many cases occurring in trusted environments like schools.
ReportNaija has reached out to the FCT Police Command and the school for comments but is yet to receive responses.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the nearest police station or child protection agencies.
