  • NNAMDI KANU WRITES PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP, ALLEGES CHRISTIAN GENOCIDE IN SOUTHEAST NIGERIA

  • The detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has reportedly written a formal letter to the President of the United States, Donald J. Trump, raising alarm over what he described as an ongoing “Christian genocide” in the South-East region of Nigeria.

In the letter, Kanu appealed directly to President Trump to use his global influence and leadership role to draw international attention to the “systematic persecution” of Christians in the South-East, which he claims has been largely ignored by both the Nigerian authorities and the international community.

According to sources close to Kanu’s legal team, the letter details a series of violent incidents, killings, and alleged human rights abuses carried out by security operatives and armed groups in the region. Kanu described the situation as “a humanitarian disaster in motion,” urging the U.S. government to intervene and champion the cause of justice and religious freedom.

He further stated that the violence against Christians in the South-East is not merely a local security issue but a coordinated campaign of oppression aimed at silencing the aspirations of the Igbo people and other ethnic minorities seeking self-determination.

In his appeal, Kanu called on President Trump to mobilize the U.S. Congress, the United Nations, and international human rights organizations to investigate and address the alleged atrocities. He emphasized that “the silence of the world in the face of this cruelty is a tragedy that must not continue.”

The IPOB leader also reiterated his group’s demand for a peaceful referendum to allow the people of the South-East determine their political and national future, adding that only self-determination can bring lasting peace and justice to the region.

Although the White House has yet to issue an official statement regarding the letter, the development has generated mixed reactions across political and diplomatic circles. Supporters of Kanu have praised the move as a bold and strategic international outreach, while critics have described it as a political distraction.

Mazi Nnamdi Kanu remains in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS), with his legal team continuing to demand his unconditional release and a fair trial in line with international human rights standards.
