  • CHIEF OF AIR STAFF VISITS NAF ALPHA JET PILOTS AFTER SAFE EJECTION FROM CRASHED AIRCRAFT IN NIGER STATE

  • Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, has visited the two Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Alpha Jet pilots who safely ejected from their aircraft after experiencing an in-flight emergency at NAF Base Kainji.

The Alpha Jet went down on Saturday in a community within Borgu LGA of Niger State, prompting swift emergency response from the military.

In a statement released on Facebook, the NAF said the visit was to commend the aircrew for their courage, professionalism, and sound judgment during the post-inspection functional check flight conducted on December 6, 2025.

According to the Air Force, the aircraft developed a technical fault shortly after take-off. Acting quickly, the pilots skilfully manoeuvred the jet away from residential areas before ejecting safely—an action that prevented potential casualties and widespread damage.

The service confirmed that both pilots are currently undergoing routine medical evaluation and are in stable condition.

Air Marshal Aneke praised the pilots for their bravery and quick decision-making, noting that their actions exemplify the highest standards of military aviation. He also ordered the immediate setup of a Board of Inquiry to investigate the cause of the crash.

NAF added that its search and rescue teams, fire and crash response units, and medical personnel responded promptly to secure the crash site and ensure the safety of the aircrew.

The statement further highlighted the inherent risks associated with military aviation and the high demands of maintaining continuous operational readiness.

The Nigerian Air Force reassured the public of its unwavering commitment to strict safety protocols and its mandate to protect lives and property across the nation.
