  • IMO POLICE COMMAND DISPELS FALSE SOCIAL MEDIA ALLEGATIONS AGAINST “TIGER BASE” ANTI-KIDNAPPING UNIT

  • The Imo State Police Command has expressed concern over a viral social media post alleging that the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit, popularly known as “Tiger Base,” is involved in torture, organ trafficking, and extrajudicial killings. The Command categorically denies these claims, describing them as baseless, misleading, and designed to incite fear among the public.

According to the Command, the Tiger Base is a duly established tactical unit of the Nigeria Police Force with a clear mandate to combat kidnapping, armed robbery, cultism, and other violent crimes across the state. It emphasized that the unit is not an illegal detention centre, nor does it operate as a “slaughter house,” as alleged. All suspects are reportedly handled in accordance with Nigerian laws and established policing procedures.

The Command noted that Tiger Base has been instrumental in dismantling several major kidnapping and armed robbery syndicates, contributing significantly to the improved security currently enjoyed by residents of Imo State.

It further stated that no credible evidence exists to support the circulating allegations of torture, organ harvesting, or extrajudicial killings, describing the claims as a calculated smear campaign by criminal networks affected by intensified security operations.

The Police Command also condemned attempts to inject ethnic sentiment into routine law-enforcement activities by targeting the Officer-in-Charge, stressing that the Nigeria Police Force remains a national institution where officers serve professionally across all parts of the country.

In a move to enhance accountability and public confidence, the Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, has ordered the immediate creation of a Human Rights Desk within the Anti-Kidnapping Unit. The desk is expected to ensure greater oversight, transparency, and protection of the rights of all individuals processed by the unit.

The Command urges members of the public to disregard the falsehoods circulating online and encourages individuals with genuine complaints to contact the Complaints Response Unit (CRU), X-Squad, or the newly established Human Rights Desk at the Anti-Kidnapping Unit.

It further warned that deliberately spreading false information to instigate public fear or undermine security operations constitutes an offence under the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act 2015
