The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the temporary remand of former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), at the Kuje Correctional Centre pending the hearing of his bail application.
Also remanded alongside him are his son, Abubakar Abdulaziz Malami, and associate, Hajia Bashir Asabe.
Justice Emeka Nwite issued the remand order on December 30, 2025, following the defendants’ arraignment by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
They were docked on a 16-count charge bordering on money laundering, conspiracy, concealment of proceeds of unlawful activities and unlawful acquisition of high-value properties allegedly worth billions of naira in Abuja, Kano and Kebbi between 2015 and 2025, a period covering Malami’s tenure as Attorney-General.
All three defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.
After listening to arguments, Justice Nwite directed that they be remanded in custody while the court considers their bail requests.
The matter has been adjourned to January 2, 2026, for hearing of the bail applications.
They will remain at Kuje Correctional Centre until then.
