The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has issued a stern warning to the Federal Government, declaring that it will embark on a total, indefinite, and comprehensive nationwide strike if the government fails to implement all previously agreed-upon demands within the next four weeks.
The announcement was made today as the association expressed frustration over what it describes as the government’s persistent failure to honor commitments regarding doctors’ welfare, improved working conditions, adequate medical equipment, and the implementation of outstanding agreements.
NARD stated that resident doctors across the country are overburdened, underpaid, and working in deteriorating hospital environments despite repeated promises from authorities to address these challenges.
The association emphasized that the four-week ultimatum is non-negotiable and urged the government to act swiftly to prevent a shutdown of healthcare services nationwide.
If the strike proceeds, it will significantly disrupt medical care, particularly in federal and teaching hospitals where resident doctors make up the majority of the workforce.
