  • Nigerian Man, Obi Okoshuku, Arrested in South Africa for Alleged Crystal Meth Possession

  • A 44-year-old Nigerian man, Obi Anthony Okoshuku, has been arrested in South Africa for alleged possession of crystal meth valued at R110,000. He appeared in court shortly after his arrest and has been remanded in custody. His next court appearance is scheduled for 8 December 2025 at the Mdutjana Magistrate’s Court.

Okoshuku was arrested in the early hours of Friday, 28 November 2025, after police in Siyabuswa intercepted his vehicle along the R568 road between Maphotla and Siyabuswa. Officers on patrol reportedly spotted a white Nissan NP200 bakkie with Gauteng registration plates and attempted to stop it. The driver allegedly refused to comply, prompting a chase before the vehicle was eventually cornered.

During the search, officers discovered two containers filled with a white powder suspected to be crystal meth, concealed inside bags. The vehicle was confiscated as part of the ongoing investigation.

Police spokesperson Captain Mpho Nonyane-Mpe confirmed the arrest, commending the swift action of officers involved.

“We appreciate the swift response of the members. Their vigilance led to the recovery of suspected drugs that would have found their way into our communities,” she stated.

Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General Zeph Mkhwanazi, also hailed the operation, describing it as a major victory against drug trafficking in the region.
