The Nigeria Police Force has recorded a major breakthrough in its ongoing war against banditry and kidnapping with the arrest of two notorious kingpins terrorising parts of the North-West and North-Central regions of the country.
On Friday, December 19, 2025, operatives of the Force Intelligence Department – Intelligence Response Team (FID–IRT), in collaboration with officers of the Kwara State Police Command, carried out a covert operation that led to the interception and arrest of two members of a feared criminal gang along the Komen–Masallaci axis in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State.
The suspects, identified as Abubakar Usman (alias Siddi), 26, and Shehu Mohammadu (alias Gide), 30, were apprehended in Komen–Masallaci village where they had reportedly been coordinating criminal activities.
Items recovered during the operation include:
- A brand new red Honda Ace 125 motorcycle valued at ₦1,850,000, reportedly purchased from ransom proceeds
- ₦500,000 cash believed to be part of unspent ransom money
- One AK-47 rifle with a magazine loaded with 20 rounds of live ammunition
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects belong to a notorious syndicate responsible for multiple kidnapping and banditry operations across Zamfara, Katsina, Niger, and Kwara States. They are also alleged to be actively involved in supplying arms and ammunition to criminal networks.
The Nigeria Police also confirmed that one of the suspects, Abubakar Usman, was recently identified as the individual seen flaunting sophisticated weapons and large sums of money in a viral social media video.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, commended the operatives for their professionalism and resilience, assuring Nigerians of the Force’s determination to dismantle criminal gangs and restore peace across affected regions.
Both suspects are currently assisting police investigations, with efforts ongoing to track down other fleeing members of the syndicate and recover more weapons.
The Police further urged members of the public to continue providing credible information that could aid security agencies in their operations.
The statement was issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, from the Force Headquarters in Abuja on December 26, 2025.
