A content creator, Polycarp Obinna Alegu, has been remanded in a correctional facility in Ebonyi State following allegations of defamatory publications made against the Secretary to the Ebonyi State Government.
Alegu was reportedly arraigned before a court in the state after complaints were filed accusing him of making and circulating posts deemed defamatory on digital platforms. The posts were said to target the Secretary to the State Government, raising concerns over the use of social media to spread unverified or damaging information.
During the court proceedings, the prosecution argued that the content published by the defendant amounted to defamation and posed a threat to public order and the reputation of public office holders. Following deliberations, the court ordered that Alegu be remanded in prison custody pending the fulfillment of bail conditions or further hearing in the matter.
The case has since generated reactions within Ebonyi State and across social media, with debates centering on freedom of expression, responsible content creation, and the legal boundaries governing online publications.
The matter has been adjourned to a later date as investigations and legal processes continue.
