Two Friends Die Hours Apart After Eating Pork Meat in Anambra Community

Tragedy struck in Umuoji, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, following the mysterious death of a Lagos-based man who had returned home to attend a burial ceremony.

The deceased, identified as Ejike Basil Anoliefo, aged 50, reportedly arrived in Umuoji from Lagos a few days ago for a burial, unaware that the trip would become his final journey.

According to sources close to the family, Mr. Ejike was passing through the town when he encountered an old friend relaxing at a local beer parlour. The two longtime friends reportedly exchanged pleasantries and decided to spend some time together. They shared drinks, laughter, and a plate of pork meat purchased from a nearby food outlet before parting ways later in the day.

However, events took a tragic turn later that night when Mr. Ejike began to complain of severe stomach pains. As his condition rapidly worsened, family members questioned him about what he had eaten earlier. He reportedly mentioned only the pork meat he had shared with his friend.

Before he could be taken to a medical facility for urgent treatment, Mr. Ejike passed away.

The situation became even more devastating when it was later confirmed that the same friend he had eaten with also died that same night under similar circumstances. The sudden deaths of the two men, who were reportedly in good health hours earlier, have left the community in shock and mourning.

The incident has since sparked outrage among residents of Umuoji. On the day Mr. Ejike was laid to rest, youths in the community reportedly sealed off the food outlet suspected to have sold the meat and staged a protest, demanding answers and justice.

As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official confirmation regarding the arrest or questioning of the shop owner by security agencies. Authorities are yet to release a statement on the cause of death or the status of investigations.

Families affected by the tragedy remain devastated, while fear and tension linger within the community.
