Bandits Kill Five, Soldier in Fresh Attack on Plateau Community

Suspected bandits on Monday launched a deadly attack on Zurak community in Wase Local Government Area of Plateau State, killing at least five residents and a soldier. The assault, which occurred around 3:00 p.m., also left three soldiers missing following a fierce exchange of gunfire.

Local reports indicate that the attackers, who had earlier raided Sabon Gari community, set several houses ablaze before looting shops and stealing food items and valuables.

A youth leader in Wase, Shapi’i Sambo, confirmed the incident, adding that the remains of the slain soldier had been evacuated to Jos.

Residents described a community in panic, with many fleeing for safety.
“This incident is devastating, and Zurak community is currently deserted as residents have fled to neighboring villages for fear of further attacks,” said Jibrin Isa, a resident of Zak community.

The latest attack is one in a series of violent incidents plaguing Wase LGA, which has faced escalating cases of banditry and kidnapping. On December 21, 2025, 28 travelers were abducted in the area, heightening concerns about worsening insecurity.

Community leaders are urging the government and security agencies to intervene urgently and restore peace to the affected communities.
