The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has submitted a proposed budget of ₦873.78 billion to the National Assembly for the conduct of the 2027 general elections.
INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, made this known while presenting the commission’s financial proposal, stressing that early approval of the budget is critical to the success of the polls.
According to him, timely appropriation will enable INEC to plan effectively and ensure the smooth execution of electoral activities nationwide.
“Early appropriation is necessary to guarantee adequate planning and seamless execution of the elections,” Amupitan said.
A breakdown of the proposal shows that ₦375.75 billion is earmarked for election operations, covering logistics, personnel, and field activities across the country. Another ₦209.21 billion is allocated to technology, reflecting INEC’s continued push for a more tech-driven electoral process.
The commission also set aside ₦92.31 billion for administrative expenses, while ₦154.90 billion is designated for capital projects, including infrastructure and equipment upgrades.
INEC noted that the budget reflects lessons learned from previous elections and is designed to strengthen transparency, efficiency, and credibility in the 2027 polls.
