The (NCS), Federal Operations Unit Zone ‘D’, has intercepted a range of contraband items, including a vehicle, petroleum products and live endangered animals, with a total duty-paid value estimated at over N52.6 million.

The seizures were made during a series of intelligence-driven operations across the zone, as officers intensified efforts to curb smuggling and enforce compliance with existing customs regulations. Officials disclosed that the intercepted items were concealed and being transported in violation of import and export guidelines.

According to the unit, the confiscated petroleum products were stored in multiple containers, while the vehicle was impounded for allegedly breaching customs documentation requirements. The live endangered animals were also rescued during the operation, in line with laws protecting wildlife and prohibiting illegal trafficking.

The Comptroller of the Federal Operations Unit, Zone ‘D’, reiterated the Service’s commitment to safeguarding the nation’s economy, protecting local industries and preventing environmental crimes. He warned smugglers and their collaborators to desist from illegal activities or face the full weight of the law.

The seized items are expected to undergo further investigation and necessary legal procedures in accordance with the provisions of the Customs and Excise Management Act.
