The traditional ruler of a community in Kwara State, Oba Simeon Olanipekun, has regained his freedom after being abducted by suspected gunmen.
According to members of the monarch’s family, the royal father was released after an additional ransom of ₦12 million was paid to his captors, bringing an end to days of anxiety and uncertainty surrounding his whereabouts.
Oba Olanipekun was reportedly kidnapped from his community under circumstances that sparked fear among residents and raised renewed concerns over the growing wave of abductions targeting prominent individuals across the country.
Photos circulating after his release show the monarch surrounded by family members and well-wishers, many of whom gathered to thank God for his safe return. Sources close to the family disclosed that the monarch appeared visibly weak but stable following his ordeal.
As of the time of filing this report, security agencies have yet to issue an official statement on the incident or confirm whether any arrests have been made in connection with the abduction.
The incident adds to the rising cases of kidnapping in Kwara State and other parts of Nigeria, with citizens calling on the government and security operatives to intensify efforts to curb the menace and protect lives and property.
