Wife Stabs Immigration Officer Husband to Death Over Infidelity and Medical Bill Dispute

In a heartbreaking incident that has shocked the community of Umuahia in Abia State, a heated domestic dispute turned deadly when a wife allegedly stabbed her husband, Mr. Chidiebere , also known as Mr. Agali, to death with a pair of scissors. The victim, an immigration officer, succumbed to his injuries after a confrontation rooted in financial strain and suspicions of infidelity.

Sources close to the family reveal that the argument erupted on the evening of February 15, 2026, when the couple clashed over money needed to treat their sick son. The wife, desperate to cover the child's medical expenses, reportedly demanded funds from her husband, who refused. Frustrated, she accessed his phone and uncovered messages suggesting he was cheating on her. This discovery ignited a fierce altercation that spilled into the early hours of February 16.

Family members, including Mr. Chidiebere's sister, intervened initially, pleading with the couple to prioritize their son's health. However, tensions reignited later that night. The fight escalated, with both parties destroying each other's phones in the chaos. In a moment of rage, the wife grabbed a nearby pair of scissors and stabbed Mr. Chidiebere causing him to collapse.

Despite immediate efforts to rush him to a local hospital with the help of relatives, Mr. Chidiebere was pronounced dead on arrival. The wife attempted to gather her belongings and flee with their children, but alert community youths intercepted her, nearly resulting in mob justice. She was rescued and turned over to the police, who have since taken her into custody.

Authorities are investigating the case, with preliminary reports confirming the stabbing as the cause of death. The incident underscores the growing concerns over domestic violence in Nigeria, often exacerbated by economic pressures and marital betrayals amplified by digital evidence.

Mr. Chidiebere, remembered by colleagues as a dedicated immigration officer, leaves behind a grieving family, including his young son whose illness inadvertently sparked the tragedy. Community leaders are calling for better support systems for families facing financial hardships and relationship crises.
