Zamfara Councillor Empowers Constituents With Charcoal And Pressing Irons

In a gesture aimed at supporting small-scale entrepreneurs and petty traders, Councillor Tahir has distributed charcoal and locally manufactured pressing irons to constituents across his ward in Zamfara State.

The empowerment initiative, which took place over the weekend, saw dozens of beneficiaries receive the items to help boost their dry-cleaning and laundry businesses. Speaking at the distribution ceremony, Councillor Tahir explained that the programme was designed to alleviate the economic hardships facing many residents in the area.

"These pressing irons and charcoal will go a long way in helping our people earn a decent living," the councillor said. "Many of our constituents depend on laundry services for their daily bread, and this support will enable them to continue their work without interruption."

The distribution, which prioritised women and youth, forms part of the councillor's broader constituency development plan. Recipients expressed gratitude for the timely intervention, noting that the rising cost of charcoal and pressing equipment had made it increasingly difficult to sustain their businesses.

Maryam Usman, one of the beneficiaries, told reporters that she had been struggling to keep her laundry shop open due to the high cost of materials. "This support has come at the right time," she said. "I can now serve my customers better and provide for my family."

Community leaders who attended the event commended Councillor Tahir for his commitment to grassroots development, urging other political office holders to emulate his example.

The councillor announced plans to extend the empowerment programme to other parts of the ward in the coming weeks, with a focus on supporting vulnerable groups and promoting self-reliance among constituents.
