ARAP Facility in Ogijo Sealed By Ogun Government After Ex-Worker’s Health Claims Go Viral

The Ogun State Government has shut down African Refractory and Allied Products Limited (ARAP), a ramming production company located in Ogijo, following the circulation of a viral video by a former employee alleging serious health concerns linked to the company’s operations.

ARAP, which specializes in crushing quartz stones into fine powder used for furnace linings in steel manufacturing companies, was sealed after authorities began reviewing claims made in the widely shared video.

In the footage, Bartholomew Aniemeka, who identified himself as a former staff member of the company, alleged that he developed a contagious disease known as silicosis during his time at the facility. According to him, he worked with the company until June 2025 before resigning. He claimed that prolonged exposure to dust generated from quartz crushing contributed to his health condition.

Silicosis is a lung disease caused by inhaling fine silica dust, commonly associated with mining, quarrying, and stone-crushing operations. Health experts say the condition can develop over time when adequate protective measures are not in place.

While government officials have yet to release a detailed statement outlining the findings of their preliminary investigation, sources indicate that the closure is part of an immediate response to safeguard public health and allow for proper environmental and safety assessments at the facility.

Residents around the Ogijo industrial area have expressed mixed reactions, with some calling for stricter monitoring of manufacturing plants operating within residential communities. Others have urged authorities to ensure a fair investigation before drawing conclusions.

As of the time of filing this report, the management of African Refractory and Allied Products Limited has not issued an official response to the allegations.

The state government is expected to provide further updates as investigations progress.
