Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has dismissed widespread speculation suggesting he is planning to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), maintaining that he remains firmly committed to the party.
The clarification comes amid reports that the governor was considering a move to the All Progressives Congress (APC), with claims that such a decision could be imminent.
Speaking briefly with journalists on Wednesday after the swearing-in of 17 newly appointed permanent secretaries at the Government House, Mohammed declined a full interview but addressed the rumours in clear terms.
“I have not moved; they said that I have defected,” he stated, adding that he would provide a more detailed response later.
The governor, who described himself as an “international figure in politics,” assured that he would further clarify his position in a scheduled media appearance.
During the ceremony, Mohammed also charged the newly appointed permanent secretaries to uphold integrity and professionalism in the discharge of their duties. He warned against corruption and any conduct capable of undermining the credibility of the administration.
“This administration will not tolerate corruption or any act capable of bringing the government into disrepute,” he said.
He urged the appointees to remain disciplined, avoid partisan involvement while in office, and contribute to ongoing civil service reforms by mentoring younger officers.
Mohammed also reassured retirees of his administration’s commitment to settling outstanding gratuities, estimated at about ₦20 billion. According to him, payment of arrears spanning 13 years began in January 2026.
The oath of office for the newly appointed officials was administered by the Chief Judge of Bauchi State, Justice Talatu Musa Umar.
