A member of the guard unit attached to the Emir of Zamfara, Alhaji Abdulkadir Ibrahim Bello, has reportedly died following an ambush by suspected bandits along the Mayanchi–Anka Road in Zamfara State.
The attack reportedly occurred on Sunday afternoon when armed men targeted members of the Emir’s guard, locally known as the Dogarai, while they were travelling along the highway.
According to information shared by security analyst Bakatsine on X, one of the guards, identified as Jamilu, sustained gunshot wounds during the assault. He was widely known within the palace circle for holding the Emir’s ceremonial umbrella during official engagements.
Jamilu was said to have been rushed to the General Hospital in Gusau for medical treatment but later succumbed to his injuries.
Reacting to the development, the security analyst described the incident as another grim reminder of the growing insecurity on major highways in the region.
“This tragic incident once again highlights the dangers faced daily by citizens travelling along our roads,” he said.
Details surrounding the attack remain unclear as of the time of filing this report. Efforts to obtain official confirmation from the Zamfara State Police Command were unsuccessful.
The incident adds to rising concerns about insecurity across Zamfara State, where travellers and local communities have repeatedly faced attacks, kidnappings, and ambushes attributed to armed bandit groups operating in rural and forested areas.
Security experts and residents have continued to call for stronger security measures to protect highways and vulnerable communities across the North-West region.
