Igboho Declares Support for Tinubu’s Second Term, Dismisses Obi and Atiku

Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has openly declared his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election, saying he backs the President for a second term in office.

In a video circulating online, Igboho stated that he and his supporters have no interest in the presidential ambitions of former Labour Party candidate Peter Obi or former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

“President Tinubu for a second term. We don’t want any Peter Obi or Atiku Abubakar here,” he said.

Igboho went further to suggest that even after President Tinubu completes two terms in office, some supporters may still urge him to remain in power.

“Even after Bola Tinubu completes his eight years in office, we will still beg him to continue,” he added.

He also warned that discussions about Obi or Atiku should not be brought into the South-West, insisting that the region strongly supports President Tinubu.

However, the remarks have drawn reactions from the Yoruba Union, also known as Ìgbìnmó Májékóbájé Ilé-Yorùbá, which has distanced itself from Igboho over his alleged endorsement of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The group said the agitation for the liberation and sovereignty of the Yoruba people should not be reduced to partisan political interests.

In a statement signed by its Convener, Olusola Badero, and released through its Home Director, Princess Balogun, the organisation said it had received several inquiries from Yoruba people at home and in the diaspora seeking clarification about Igboho’s political position.

The union stressed that it would not support any action that compromises the struggle for Yoruba emancipation or overlooks the sacrifices made by those affected by insecurity and violence in the region.

“We unequivocally distance ourselves from Sunday Igboho’s selfish act of abandoning Yoruba Nation agitation to publicly campaign for APC and its agent, whose policies have pushed millions of our people into poverty and hardship while insecurity has worsened,” the statement read.

The group further emphasised that the Yoruba Nation movement was built on sacrifice and dedication, noting that many individuals have paid a heavy price in pursuit of the cause.
