NDLEA Arrests Ex-Lagos Councillor Sheleru Sadiq Olalekan Over Alleged Drug Trafficking

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a former councillor of the Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Council in Lagos State, Sheleru Sadiq Olalekan, over alleged involvement in illicit drug trafficking.

Olalekan, 45, who reportedly served two terms as a councillor and currently works as a legislative aide, was arrested on Monday, March 2, 2026, during an intelligence-led operation carried out by anti-narcotic officers.

According to the NDLEA, the suspect was apprehended at his residence located in Ilado community in the Ibeju-Lekki area of Lagos State.

A statement released on Sunday by the agency’s spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, said operatives conducted a thorough search of the premises during the operation.

The search reportedly led to the recovery of about 40 kilograms of skunk, a strong strain of cannabis, discovered in one of the rooms inside the residence.

Babafemi stated that the suspect made a voluntary statement after his arrest, during which he allegedly admitted ownership of the seized drugs as well as the property where they were found.

The NDLEA spokesperson also noted that Olalekan confirmed his political background, stating that he had previously served two terms as councillor representing the Orimedu community in Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area.

“He admitted ownership of the exhibit and the property where it was recovered,” Babafemi said in the statement, adding that the suspect acknowledged his past role as a councillor representing Orimedu community within the council area.

The anti-drug agency said further investigations into the case are ongoing.
