Nine out of ten suspects linked to the abduction of worshippers during a vigil at St. John Catholic Church on February 8, 2026, have been convicted and sentenced to varying prison terms.
The convictions followed a series of coordinated rescue operations carried out by security agencies, led by the police Intelligence Response Team, which successfully secured the release of all the victims.
According to authorities, the investigation began with the arrest of four suspects, during which operatives recovered AK-47 rifles and ammunition. Further intelligence gathering and follow-up operations led to the apprehension of additional members of the syndicate.
Among those arrested were Abubakar Jibril and Ashiru Ibrahim, whose confessions provided critical insights that helped security operatives dismantle the wider criminal network behind the abduction.
Chairman of Ado Local Government Area, Sunny Oche, confirmed the sentencing and commended the collaborative efforts that led to the breakthrough. He praised security agencies, local vigilante groups, and key stakeholders for their roles in ensuring justice was served.
Oche noted that the outcome of the case is expected to strengthen public confidence in ongoing efforts to tackle insecurity and protect communities.
Authorities have reiterated their commitment to sustaining operations aimed at curbing criminal activities and preventing similar incidents in the future.
