ADC Chieftains Warn Tinubu: Don’t Turn Nigeria Into One-Party State

Abuja, Wednesday – Top leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) have fired a strong warning at President Bola Tinubu, accusing his administration of steadily destroying Nigeria’s democratic system and pushing the country towards a one-party state.

The warning came during the ongoing OccupyINEC protest in Abuja, where party chieftains and their allies gathered to demand free and fair elections.
Speaking on behalf of the ADC, former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi made it clear that Nigerians will not sit back and watch democracy die.
“We are simply holding a peaceful demonstration to say that we cannot have a one-party system in our country. It is a democratic nation,” Obi declared.
He continued: “We are appealing to those in government: do not destroy our democracy. We need it for our children and for generations to come. Nigerians must have the freedom to choose who leads them. This is critical for our country.”
Obi’s message was direct and emotional, urging the ruling government to remember that power belongs to the people and must never be turned into an inheritance. Also addressing the crowd was former Minister of Transportation and ex-Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi. He did not mince words as he blamed the Tinubu administration for the hardship currently faced by millions of Nigerians.
“Imagine a president who came to power and the first thing he did was to change the national anthem… and gave us hunger,” Amaechi said.
He added: “He said he would give us roads; up till now, they have not given us roads. The money is gone. By the grace of God, they will lose the election.”
Amaechi went further to predict that the All Progressives Congress (APC) would be defeated in the 2027 presidential election if the current trend of hardship and alleged democratic erosion continues. The protest, which has drawn attention from across the political divide, is seen by many observers as the beginning of a stronger opposition push against the Tinubu administration ahead of the next general elections.ReportNaija will continue to monitor developments as the situation unfolds.
