A new faction has surfaced within the African Democratic Congress (ADC), distancing itself from both the group led by David Mark and the faction associated with Nafiu Bala.
The group, led by Don Norman Obinna, claims to be the duly elected members of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC).
Addressing journalists in Abuja on Tuesday, the faction argued that the tenure of former National Chairman Ralph Nwosu ended in August 2022, alleging that his continued leadership beyond that period triggered multiple legal disputes. It further described his reported handover of the party structure to the David Mark–led coalition as unlawful.
The group formally announced its dissociation from both the Mark-led bloc and Nafiu Bala, insisting that neither faction has legitimate authority to act on behalf of the party. It also maintained that Bala never held the position of National Vice Chairman within the ADC.
In addition, the faction reaffirmed that the party’s former presidential candidate, Dumebi Kachikwu, remains a bonafide member of the ADC.
As part of its resolutions, the group disclosed that it has constituted an interim leadership to oversee party affairs pending the conduct of a national convention.
The development signals deepening internal divisions within the ADC, as multiple factions continue to lay claim to the party’s leadership structure.
