Court Jails Boko Haram Food Supplier

Justice Binta Fatima Nyako of the Federal High Court, Abuja, has sentenced a man identified as Hamatu Modu to 40 years imprisonment for supplying food and intelligence to Boko Haram terrorists in Borno State.

Modu, who was prosecuted by the Federal Government through the Office of the Attorney General, pleaded guilty to a four-count charge bordering on terrorism. He admitted in open court to aiding the insurgents with food items and information.

The prosecution was led by Rotimi Oyedepo, Director of Public Prosecution of the Federation.

In her judgment, Justice Nyako sentenced Modu to 10 years on each count. However, the court ruled that the sentences should run concurrently, meaning he will serve 10 years in total.

In a related development, the court also sentenced another suspect, Isah Ali, to 10 years imprisonment for similar offences. His sentence is to take effect from the date of his arrest, approximately three years ago.

Both convicts were also ordered to undergo rehabilitation and deradicalisation programmes after serving their jail terms.

The court further directed the Federal Ministry of Interior to determine the correctional facilities where the convicts will serve their sentences.
