US Enforces Visa Ban on Religious Freedom Violators, Nigeria Under Watch

The United States government has begun enforcing new visa restrictions targeting individuals implicated in violations of religious freedom, declaring that such persons “are not welcome in America.”

The policy was announced by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who stated that the measure applies to those who direct, support, or are directly involved in acts that undermine religious liberty.

Scope of the Restrictions

According to U.S. officials, the visa ban could also extend to immediate family members of those found culpable, significantly widening the impact of the policy.

The move is part of Washington’s broader effort to reinforce its stance on human rights while also addressing national security concerns linked to instability and persecution based on religion.

Nigeria Among Countries Under Scrutiny

Countries with documented cases of religious freedom concerns, including Nigeria, are expected to face increased monitoring under the policy.

While no specific individuals have been publicly named in connection with the new restrictions, the U.S. government signaled that enforcement would be deliberate and evidence-based.

Officials say the initiative is designed not only to hold violators accountable but also to deter future abuses by restricting access to the United States.

The policy reinforces America’s long-standing position on protecting freedom of worship and sends a clear signal to actors accused of enabling or carrying out religious persecution globally.
