FUOYE Student Found Dead in Abandoned Well Near Hostel Area

 



A student of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), identified simply as Ayo, has reportedly been found dead inside an abandoned well near the school’s hostel area.

According to reports making rounds online, the young man allegedly left his room around 5 a.m. on May 18 without his phone before he was later discovered lifeless in the unused well close to the student residence area.

Sources close to the incident claimed that Ayo had been battling emotional and mental health challenges for some time. A relative who reacted to the tragic development alleged that he had been dealing with depression linked to family-related issues, including an alleged strained relationship with his father.

Friends and acquaintances described him as a calm and friendly person who interacted freely with people around him. Some students who knew him also recalled how he would occasionally visit nearby lodges to charge his phone or borrow cooking gas.

The heartbreaking incident has sparked emotional reactions across social media, with many Nigerians expressing sadness while also calling for increased awareness and support for mental health, especially among young people and students.

As of the time of filing this report, authorities have yet to officially confirm the exact cause of death, while investigations into the incident are reportedly ongoing.

The tragic development has once again raised conversations around mental health struggles among youths and the need for better support systems within schools and communities.
