Babcock University has distanced itself from a certificate circulating on social media and allegedly linked to comedian and content creator Carter Efe, describing the document as fake.
In a statement released on Monday, June 29, the institution said the purported honorary certificate, which claimed to have been awarded to Oderhohwo Joseph Efe, popularly known as Carter Efe, did not originate from the university.
The university stated that the document was fraudulent and urged the public not to regard it as authentic.
Babcock University explained that it does not award honorary certificates for undergraduate academic performance.
The institution also clarified that it has no academic classification known as "First Class Upper," noting that its highest undergraduate classification is First Class Honours.
According to the university, the discrepancies in the document clearly indicate that it was not issued by the institution.
The university advised members of the public, employers, and other educational institutions to disregard the certificate and avoid relying on it for any official purpose.
It further encouraged anyone seeking to verify academic qualifications purportedly issued by Babcock University to contact the Office of the Registrar through the appropriate verification channels.
The institution reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the integrity of its academic records and warned against the circulation or use of fraudulent documents bearing its name.
