Former Tinubu Aide Says He Resigned to Campaign Against President’s 2027 Re-Election

A former Senior Special Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Public Affairs, Aliyu Audu, has revealed that he resigned from the current administration to actively work against the President's re-election bid in the 2027 general elections.

Audu made the disclosure during an interview on Channels Television's Sunrise Daily on Monday, saying his decision was guided by his conscience and personal convictions.

According to him, he could no longer remain a member of the administration while planning to campaign for a change in leadership ahead of the next presidential election.

Referring to President Tinubu's Democracy Day speech, in which the President said he enjoyed seeing opposition parties in disarray, Audu said the remarks reinforced his decision to leave the government.

“It confirmed it on one hand, and on the other hand, it strengthened my resolve to not work for him in 2027,” he said.

“I couldn’t in all honesty and in my conscience be in his government knowing I’m plotting against his removal in 2027, because I will, and by God, we will remove him. Collectively, Nigerians will install a leader that will be our chosen, not his chosen. Not Emilokan (my turn), but Awa Lokan (our turn), in fact, Gbogbo Wa Lokan (all of us),” Audu stated.

The former presidential aide also alleged that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) was attempting to turn Nigeria into a one-party state.

He further criticised the appointment of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, into the APC-led administration despite Wike's membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Questioning the arrangement, Audu argued that political appointments should reflect party structures rather than individual affiliations.

“What is Wike doing in our government? If he’s going to leave the PDP, he should leave. If we’re doing a government of national unity, you deal with the party, not individuals. The party is what we vote for — not Bola Tinubu but APC; not Atiku but PDP; not Peter Obi but Labour Party,” he said.

Audu's remarks come as political activities and alignments ahead of the 2027 general elections continue to gather momentum, with opposition parties and key political figures already positioning themselves for the next electoral cycle.

As of the time of filing this report, neither the Presidency nor the All Progressives Congress had officially responded to Audu's comments.
