The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has detained four police officers for allegedly extorting ₦53,000 from the Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Dr. Musa Aliyu (SAN), during an illegal stop-and-search operation in Abuja.
According to reports, the officers intercepted the ICPC chairman while conducting an unauthorized stop-and-search exercise and allegedly coerced him into parting with ₦53,000 before allowing him to continue his journey.
The incident was later reported to the FCT Police Command, which swiftly identified and arrested the officers involved. They have since been taken into custody pending the outcome of an internal investigation.
The police authorities described the officers' actions as unprofessional and contrary to the ethics and standards of the Nigeria Police Force, reaffirming their commitment to accountability and discipline within the ranks.
The FCT Police Command assured members of the public that the officers would face appropriate disciplinary measures if found guilty, while reiterating its zero-tolerance policy against extortion, corruption, and other forms of misconduct by personnel.
